Indoor activities, with several safety measures in place, are permitted at Special Olympics Texas.

As a followup to the decision allowing modified outdoor activities, the Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Mitigation Committee has made the decision to additionally permit indoor in-person SOTX activities (indoor sports, fundraisers, LETR events, etc.) with several safety modifications in place.  All safety measures found on our training page are required for indoor activities.

There are currently no plans to mandate the vaccine for participation in any Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) programming within the state of Texas. This includes all local competitions, fundraising events and statewide games. We continue to strongly encourage all participants to be fully vaccinated.

Events hosted or sanctioned by parties other than SOTX are subject to the COVID-19 protocols of that party.

When not in the field of play, all participants (including spectators and family members) must wear a mask and practice social distancing.  High fives and other contact mannerisms should be avoided.  Additionally, the Mitigation Committee and Regional Executive Directors can pause upcoming activities at any time if they feel a certain area may have an unusually unsafe uprise in local COVID-19 cases.

If any members of a delegation who participated in SOTX practices and/or events test positive for Covid-19, the delegation must quarantine.

If you test positive for COVID-19:

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status -

  • Stay home for 5 days
  • If you have no symptoms, or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house
  • Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19:

If you have been boosted OR completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine in the last 6 months OR Completed the primary series of the J&J vaccine within the last 2 months -

  • Wear a mask around others for 10 days
  • Test on day 5, if possible.
  • If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home.

If you completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted OR completed te primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted OR are unvaccinated -

  • Stay home for 5 days. After that, continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
  • If you can't quarantine, you must wear a mask for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5 if possible.
  • If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home.

When in doubt, wear your mask, social distance, and get a test. We want everyone to stay healthy
