Special Olympics Texas to Return to Play (9/14/21)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : September 14, 2021

TEXAS - The Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Mitigation Committee has made the decision to permit in-person, outdoor-only SOTX activities (sports, fundraisers, LETR events, etc.) with several safety modifications in place.  All participants are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated before their return to play and must have filled out the Covid-19 waiver as well as Athletes having a current Medical on file before their return to activities.   

When not in the field of play, all participants must wear a mask and practice social distancing.  High fives and other contact mannerisms should be avoided.  Additionally, the Mitigation Committee, Heads of Delegations and Regional Executive Directors can pause upcoming activities at any time if they feel a certain area may have an unusually unsafe up-rise in local COVID-19 cases.  

If any members of a delegation who participated in SOTX practices and/or events test positive for Covid-19, the delegation must quarantine for 14 days before returning to SOTX activities.  Additionally, the individual(s) who tested positive must have a negative test result before returning to SOTX activities.

El comité de mitigación de Olimpiadas Especiales de Texas ha tomado la decisión de permitir actividades SOTX en persona, solo al aire libre (eventos para recaudar fondos, deportes, LETR, etc.) con varias modificaciones de seguridad en su lugar. Se recomienda encarecidamente a todos los participantes que estén completamente vacunados antes de regresar a jugar y deben haber completado la exención de Covid-19, así como los atletas que tengan un historial médico actual en el archivo antes de regresar a las actividades.

Cuando no estén en el campo de juego, todos los participantes deben usar una máscara y practicar el distanciamiento social. Deben evitarse los choques de manos y otros gestos de contacto. Además, el Comité de Mitigación, los Jefes de Delegación y los Directores Ejecutivos Regionales pueden pausar las próximas actividades en cualquier momento si sienten que un área determinada puede tener un aumento inusualmente inseguro en los casos locales de COVID-19.

Si algún miembro de una delegación que participó en las prácticas y / o eventos de SOTX da positivo en la prueba de Covid-19, la delegación debe ponerse en cuarentena durante 14 días antes de regresar a las actividades de SOTX. Además, las personas que dieron positivo en la prueba deben tener un resultado negativo en la prueba antes de regresar a las actividades de SOTX.
