FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : May 10, 2022

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) will stage its 2022 Summer Games in and around world-renowned Morgan’s Wonderland theme park in San Antonio from Thursday, May 12, through Sunday, May 15 and has a major announcement for the Healthy Athletes programming.

In addition to several different sports being offered, Healthy Athletes will be offered with an all-new partner, Smileyscope.  Smileyscope has a patented and new approach to digital therapeutics which athletes will get to see first hand at the 2022 Summer Games .

"Smileyscope is honored to be working with the athletes and volunteers of Special Olympics Texas," says Gavin West, VP of Sales & Marketing at Smileyscope.  "This organization has a rich history of improving the lives of these athletes.  Smileyscope looks to do the same by reducing anxiety and pain during their routine medical examinations.  This is a great event, and we could not be happier about getting to work with this fantastic group of individuals."

Smileyscope uses the power of virtual reality to improve patient healthcare.  Attendees will get to experience this technology firsthand at Morgan's Wonderland Picnic Place on Friday, May 13th at Morgan's Wonderland followed by being available at the CRIT on Saturday, May 14th during Summer Games.

"Special Olympics Texas is excited to team up with Smiley Scope to provide our athletes with innovative virtual reality technology," says Sam Devine, Statewide Heath Programs Manager at Special Olympics Texas. "This technology can assist athletes in alleviating their fear of them participating in Healthy Athletes, which is where we offer free health screenings in eight different health disciplines and can help provide a better healthcare experience for all."
