Polar Plunge on February 26th, 2022 benefitting Special Olympics Texas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : January 11, 2022

SAN ANTONIO – This February, Special Olympics Texas invites the San Antonio community to participate in one of their coldest events of the year. The annual Polar Plunge, which benefits Special Olympics Texas athletes in the greater San Antonio area is set to take place on Saturday, Feb 26th at SeaWorld- Big Gulf Shores, 10500 Sea World Dr. Those willing to freeze for a reason, can sign up individually or start a team online. Day of event registration will be held beginning at 8:00 a.m., followed by the Polar Plunge at 8:45 a.m.

The cost to take the Polar Plunge is $60 for adults and $30 for youth (18 years old and under). All registration fees include a long-sleeve Polar Plunge t-shirt. Additional funds raised will qualify participants for a Polar Plunge Tumblr. The top fundraising individual, top fundraising team, and the individual or team for “Best Costume”, will be presented with an award. All proceeds from the Polar Plunge will help fund SOTX competition, programming and training.

“We look forward to bringing the San Antonio community together in a fun event inclusive to everyone,” said Shawn Britt, Executive Director for the South Region. “There is no better time to support the athletes of Special Olympics Texas.”

Necessary precautions will be in place to ensure that all participants can enjoy a safe and fun experience. There will be lifeguards and medical personnel on standby. While not plunging, all participants (including spectators and family members) must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

This event operates under the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which is SOTX’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. Through efforts like the Polar Plunge, Texas LETR raised over $1.4 million in 2016 to support more than 58,300 SOTX athletes across the state.

The San Antonio community is invited to participate in the event. For more information, to make a donation, volunteer or register, https://bit.ly/SanAntonioPolarPlunge.
