Cavender’s to Sell Paper Torches at the Register to Support Special Olympics Texas Athletes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : August 04, 2021

TEXAS –  Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) is excited to announce the 6th annual paper torch campaign with Cavender’s. Each of Cavender’s 57 Texas stores will have paper torches available for purchase (for $1, $5 or $10) at the checkout counter July 12 - August 8, 2021. Each torch can be personalized with the buyer’s name or the name of a loved one they want to honor.

Though Special Olympics Texas athletes are beginning to return to the play and competition, there is still a need for increased health and safety protocols. Funds raised will go toward providing high-quality sports competition and training, as well as virtual opportunities and additional health safety protocols, for more than 58,800 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the state.

Special Olympics Texas Corporate Relations Director Nia Simmons stated, "we are absolutely thrilled to be working with Cavender's again this year! They have been so consistent in their support even during uncertain times. Special Olympics Texas is forever grateful”.

The cowboy boot and western wear retailer has been a generous supporter of SOTX since 2015. Cavender’s has conducted this campaign since 2015 and has raised nearly $125,000 over 6 years.

In addition to the Paper Torch Campaign, Cavender’s has been the presenting sponsor for SOTX’s statewide Equestrian Competition for many years, which is annually held in May at the Brazos County Expo Center in Bryan for nearly 200 athletes.
