Cavender’s and Special Olympics Texas’ Annual Paper Torch Campaign A Great Success

SOTX and Cavender’s partnered together to help raise funds for Special Olympics Texas sports competitions and training.

TEXAS - Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) and Cavender’s partnered together to help raise funds for Special Olympics Texas sports competitions and training. For nine consecutive summers, Cavender’s Paper Torch Campaign has supported SOTX athletes, competitions, and health programs. Throughout the entire month of July, the fundraiser ran at 59 Cavender’s locations across Texas. Customers were given the option of purchasing a Paper Torch at checkout to support Special Olympics Texas.

This year, all 59 Cavender’s stores raised a total of $48,594, with the top stores being in Midland, San Marcos, Beaumont, and Houston. The Houston Gulf Freeway location, store #17, raised over $2,000; the Beaumont location, store #41, raised over $2,500; the San Marcos location, store #40, raised over $2,800; and the Midland location, store #48, raised over $3,500.  The entirety of the funds generated by the Cavender’s Paper Torch Campaign goes to supporting Special Olympics Texas athletes’ experience in sports by providing sports competition and training throughout the Lone Star State.

The donations will support sports competitions at the local, regional, and state levels, as well as funding programs such as Unified Sports® and Unified Champion Schools®.  Cavender's has also sponsored the organization’s equestrian competitions, which continue to grow each year. The Paper Torch Campaign increases awareness of the movement toward inclusion and ensures SOTX athletes succeed both on and off the field.

The campaign hosted an Activation Day on Tuesday, July 18th, from 12:00pm-2:00pm. SOTX athletes, staff, and Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) officers made appearances at their local Cavender’s store to thank, greet, and engage with their customers to create awareness about the campaign and the Special Olympics Texas mission.
