CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –The Coastal Bend Community Foundation has awarded Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) a $7,500 grant to support athletes in the Corpus Christi area. The grant funds will provide sports programming and training for 50 children and adults with intellectual disabilities from the Corpus Christi area in 2018.

The Coastal Bend Community Foundation was incorporated in 1981 with the mission of improving the quality of life in the seven counties of the Coastal Bend. The foundation serves donors by providing a vehicle for the establishment of various types of charitable funds designed to fulfill their wishes. Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed over $108 million from donor contributions and revenues to scholarships to students and grants to nonprofit organizations. Since 2002, the foundation has contributed $113,600 to SOTX, helping the organization continue programming for athletes.

SOTX offers sports competition and training in 22 Olympic-style sports for 58,884 athletes across the Lone Star State. The nonprofit organization also offers other types of programming such as its Young Athletes Program, Motor Activities Training Program, Unified Champion Schools and Healthy Athletes.
