El Paso Organization Wins SOTX State Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) has selected the International Order of the Alhambra as its 2012 Outstanding Service from a Civic or Service Organization award winner.

The Alhambra got involved with SOTX in 1985 and on average, has about 25 members who regularly volunteer at area fundraisers and competitions.  The group’s purpose is to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities and its participants supply everything from food and labor to cooks and servers at SOTX events.  The Alhambra has also raised tens of thousands of dollars for Greater El Paso area athletes over the past 32 years.

The Outstanding Service from a Civic or Service Organization award is presented to the organization that is committed to the integration of athletes in the community, while promoting skill development and fostering self-esteem among athletes.  On October 26, Special Olympics Texas will present the award to The Alhambra and recognize the group at Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Fall Classic in Bryan/College Station.
