Go Green in Austin on EKS Day!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) – Central Texas area is rounding up its competitors for an aquatics competition on September 22.  The swim meet is set for 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hays Communities Family Branch YMCA, located at 465 Buda Sportsplex Drive in Buda.

September 22 also marks the world’s third Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) Day, named in honor of the founder of the Special Olympics movement!  EKS Day is a celebration of Shriver’s life and a global challenge for people to promote inclusion, acceptance and unity for and with people with intellectual disabilities.  On EKS Day, Special Olympics Texas will present a proclamation from Governor Rick Perry in honor of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and her lifetime commitment to Special Olympics.  Also, SOTX asks that all aquatics meet attendees wear green in solidarity.  In the EKS logo, the color green represents growth and signifies Special Olympics’ ever-growing movement and the growing number of lives that it has changed.

Come out and support our athletes as they compete for the gold!  You or your organization may also volunteer at this event by contacting Joanna Sarrett (jsarrett@sotx.org) in the Central Texas area office at 512.491.2962.  Volunteer opportunities include positions as referee, announcer, head timer, head stager and more.
