Schelly Porter Wins Prestigious MLK Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This year’s prestigious MLK Achievement Award went to one of SOTX’s very own – Schelly Porter.  The Hunt County African American Leadership Conference honored Porter at a ceremony at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce.  Porter joined SOTX 22 years ago and is a Unified bowling, Unified golf and bocce athlete.  She is also a 2007 World Games and 2010 National Games competitor.  When she’s not competing, she’s a Walmart greeter, Global Messenger and certified athletics (track and field), bocce and Unified coach, as well as a member of the Commerce Volunteer Fire Department and Commerce Kiwanis Club.

The MLK Achievement Award goes to individuals who demonstrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of raising public awareness of social injustices and loving and serving humanity.  The honor also celebrates outstanding achievements, spiritual excellence and community involvement.  Congratulations, Schelly Porter!
