Street Solicitations Start Friday in Amarillo

Soon, you’ll see Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) officers on street corners throughout Amarillo.  They won’t be on patrol looking for violators and offenders; they’ll be collecting donations for Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) - Panhandle area athletes.

Every year, LETR officers take to the streets to raise money for the movement.  From 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on April 6 and 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on April 7, they’ll collect “fines
(donations) at 14 different locations around town.  The street solicitations will happen at the intersections of Westgate Parkway East, Westgate Parkway West, Coulter and 34th, Coulter and 45th, 34th and Western, Bell and 34th, Bell and 45th, Bell and I-40, Western and 45th, Georgia and I-40, Georgia and I-27, Georgia and 34th, Ross and I-40 and I-40 and Grand in Amarillo.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR)
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.  In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation.  In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.  The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 44,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
