Kick off Spring in the Golden Triangle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ready, set, spring!  The Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) - Beaumont area Spring Games is April 14 in Orangefield.  SOTX athletes will compete in athletics (track and field) and basketball events and star in Opening Ceremonies at Orangefield I.S.D., located at 9974 FM 105.

The Games will begin with an inspiring Opening Ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, followed by track, field, basketball and Future Stars competitions beginning at 10:45 a.m.  During Opening Ceremonies, SOTX will make a major announcement about the exciting future of more than 330 Golden Triangle athletes!

Athletes will go for the gold in wheelchair races, softball throws and long jump events throughout the day, just to name a few competitions.  At 11:00 a.m., there’ll be a Future Stars competition featuring our “littlest” athletes between the ages of 2 and 7.  The Games will wrap around 2:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to encourage our athletes and be fans in the stands at the Games.  Help is also needed to set-up and break down the facility, assist with judging, scoring, results and awards.  If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Renee Klovenski (rklovenski@sotx.org) at 713.290.0049.

You don’t have to wait for the Games to cheer on SOTX athletes.  Dish up support for Special Olympics Texas at Texas Roadhouse in Port Arthur on Friday night during the Tip A Cop event.  Tip a Cop is a hearty fundraiser during which local Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) members serve patrons and collect tips for SOTX.  Tip A Cop is from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 13.
