UCS Specialist Lee Lopez gives back to his local community

June 16, 2020 | Updated: June 16, 2020

SOTX Unified Champion Schools Specialist Lee Lopez believes that giving back is a great way to get to know your community and it's citizens. In addition to Special Olympics, he fuels his love of giving back by helping the elderly in the Rio Grande Valley with their lawns!

Lopez and about 10 others have began mowing lawns and landscaping for older members of the International Christian Church in beautiful Brownsville, TX. According to Lopez, serving the elderly reminds him of his late grandmother, whom he was very close with. They plan to continue throughout the summer, believing that by getting outdoors and assisting others they learn patience, kindness, and resilience.
