This past weekend, March 4-6, 2022, Special Olympics Team Texas held their Training Camp at Morgan’s Wonderland Camp in San Antonio, Texas. This was the first time for many athletes to experience camping while also interacting with their coaches and teammates that will compete alongside them in the USA Games.

This weekend-long event hosted 240 of the 350 delegation members from Team Texas. The athletes spent the weekend training in a total of 14 different sports to prepare for the upcoming USA Games in Orlando, Florida this June.

The event provided the opportunity for athletes, coaches, and support staff to meet for the first time to prepare for the USA Games! The athletes spent Friday afternoon meeting their coaches and teammates and engaging in a camp-wide dinner on Friday night. The coaches and athletes then met on Saturday to practice in sports such as soccer, flag football, bocce, tennis, basketball, and many more. The camp then hosted several outdoor activities for the athletes before the Victory Dance that same night where the athletes enjoyed singing along to music and dancing!

Special Olympics Texas Program Director, Ytszel Trinidad, had the pleasure of attending and described the event as “quite the experience for everyone!” She stated that it was exciting to meet everybody for the first time and witness the athletes training in their sport. When asked how to describe the athlete's training, Ytszel said “it was phenomenal to watch.”  Ytszel’s favorite part about the weekend was, “witnessing the athletes from all over Texas compete as one.”

Special Olympics Texas would like to personally thank Jersey Mike’s and Pinch a Penny for all their support!
