Athlete Spotlights

Meet Elena

Elena is sweet, enthusiastic, and fun to be around. She has been competing in bowling, track, and golf since she was five and her favorite part of competing is the celebration after a game- win or lose! Elena is also a cheerleader for the Henderson Hawks in Pflugerville, and she never fails to have a big smile on her face. Her favorite place in the world is in her backyard on her swing, and her favorite part of competing are the congratulatory high-5s.

Meet Morgan

If you need a motivational speech or just someone to cheer you up, Morgan Collins is your guy! He is a fighter. Morgan beat cancer at the age of 19, and is a joy to everyone he meets. He has been with Special Olympics Texas for 17 years and he has competed in everything from flag football to cycling. His favorite part of competitions is seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and of course, winning! His must-haves for game day are nachos and his beloved pepperoni pizza.

Meet Cory

“My mom is my hero.”
Cory Gentry does it all! She ice skates, swims, and plays tennis, bowling and golf, and she even went to the world games in South Korea. She loves competition, but her favorite part about competing in Special Olympics Texas is making friends. Singing karaoke and dancing around are some of her favorite things to do at state games.

Meet Nathan

“Special Olympics Texas is family. I think the whole world should come to see the joy that the athletes give.” Nathan Van Nostrand is a force to be reckoned with! He has been involved with Special Olympics Texas since he was 8 years old, and he is a big time swimmer, basketballer, bocce baller, and bowler. Nathan enjoys being with his family and friends, and getting the GOLD. His advice to all of the athletes out there competing is to “just keep practicing and never give up.”

Meet Chapman

Chapman "Chappy" Ross is one of a kind! He loves to run track and play basketball, but most of all he loves to BOWL. You won't see Chappy without his lucky bowling gloves on game day. As much as he loves playing sports, he loves his teammates even more. When he's not playing sports, he's catching up on the latest WWE episodes.
