Dear Special Olympics Texas Family,
On my first official day with Special Olympics Texas, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m excited to be here and look forward to meeting all of you.
A little about me: I have more than 25 years of experience in non-profit, adaptive needs and sports program management, most recently as President and CEO of Special Olympics Arizona. I’m also chair of the Special Olympics Global Unified Strategies Advisory Group, which works to expand the SO Unified program worldwide. (As I’m sure you know, Unified Sports brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities together as teammates and friends and helps them develop lifelong networks.)
Special Olympics Texas turns 50 in 2019, and I’m anxious to prepare our great organization for another amazing 50 years and beyond. As a great team we will increase awareness and support of Special Olympics Texas across the state. My philosophy is and always will be that the magic of Special Olympics happens at the Area, Team and School levels, and we will work hard to make sure that we build a structure of support for those great volunteers and athletes who drive the movement forward. Special Olympics Texas will become very supportive of new ideas, new programs, new people and will become an Athlete- and Youth-led organization that focuses on building a development culture for our Athletes.
We’ll work hard to advance the vision of the Special Olympic movement of being the foremost leaders in Sports, Inclusion, Health and Leadership Programming for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. With your input and help, we all are going to have a lot of fun adding relationships, resources and great new programs in Texas.
Over the next couple of months, I am visiting each of the 19 areas and will hold Town Halls where I can meet each of you and learn about your concerns, hopes and dreams for SOTX. We’ll be sending out more information about these Town Halls soon, and I hope you’ll be able to attend. I can't wait to meet each one of you!
