KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The 2016 FC Dallas/Special Olympics Texas Unified Soccer team opened its season on Sunday afternoon with a convincing, 3-0, win over Sporting Kansas City/Special Olympics Kansas & Special Olympics Missouri at Children’s Mercy Park.

Area 10 athlete Doug Sullivan led the way with a pair of goals, scoring in each half, while Unified Partner Alyssa D’Aloise contributed to the team’s victory with a tally late in the final session.

The match was played 11 v. 11 style on the main pitch shortly after the MLS contest between FC Dallas and Sporting KC concluded on Sunday. A handful of FC Dallas coaches, players and staff came out of the locker room and spectated the Special Olympics match.

All players from both teams received medals after the game.

In addition to the match, the team got a chance to explore Kansas City on Saturday and before the game on Sunday.

The group took a tour of Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, and got to see the defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals in action on Saturday night. Before getting to business on the field on Sunday, the team visited the College Basketball Hall of Fame in downtown Kansas City.

The SOTX FC Dallas team will now begin preparations for its next two matches. The squad returns to action at home on July 16 at Toyota Stadium against the Chicago Fire/Special Olympics Illinois before going to Denver for the season finale a week later, July 23, to take one the Colorado Rapids/Special Olympics Colorado team.
