We LOVE our volunteers. Without the hundreds of Key Volunteers who run the Summer Games events and the thousands of volunteers who help the Key Volunteers, our athletes would never be able to experience this world-class athletic event.
There were hundreds of groups who provided volunteers, from Girl Scout troops to football teams to employees from various sponsors. Lots of them wore matching t-shirts from their groups, while others didn't. Some wore bright red shirts showing they were Medical volunteers ready to assist with any emergency.
Whatever they were wearing, though, the volunteers worked, and they worked hard.
Here's a list of a few things first-time Summer Games volunteers learned.
THANK YOU for everything you do. THANK YOU for giving up your Memorial Day weekend to be with our athletes. THANK YOU for standing in the hot sun, or working in Athlete Village or watching endless games of basketball or soccer or tennis. THANK YOU for caring enough for our athletes to spend time with them.
In short: THANK YOU. What you did this weekend matters. It really does.
