Cheers to the Law Enforcement Torch Run! LETR members were honored at a barbecue dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday night at UTA's KC Hall. SOTX Torch Run Co-Director and Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo presented 25 plaques for Best Small Unit, Best Medium Unit and Best Large Unit in two categories: TDCJ and law enforcement. This year's Hall of Fame award went to Fred Walters from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office and the Austin Police Department took home the Biggest Fundraiser award. In 2011, the LETR raised $1,040,000 for Special Olympics Texas! There was also a check presented to SOTX by Malyn Bannister. She raised $2,000 as a contestant in the Miss Sweetheart Special Needs Pageant held in Dallas last weekend. Her platform? Give Ability a Chance. Congratulations to all the award winners and thank you for supporting the movement. We couldn't do it without you!

I’ve been keeping up with some athletes online, it is good to still be able to interact with them virtually", said Senior Deputy Michelle Walter.
