It’s been about 18 years since Ben Amos joined SOTX. Today, the 23-year-old basketball, softball and bowling athlete is an honored member of the Katy Wolfpack delegation and manager of Cinco Ranch High School’s varsity football team. Even though Amos graduated from C.R.H.S. last year, the football coach gladly welcomed him to remain a part of the team. He’s been a revered member of the Cinco Ranch Cougars ever since.

Amos asked if he could be the team’s manager as part of the school’s Life Skill program. His teachers encouraged him to write a letter to the coaches, who called him in for an interview. They excitedly accepted Amos and gave him a job in the locker room and let him work from the sidelines during the games. He even got to ride on the same buses that took the team and staff to the competitions. …But one of his most memorable moments came at the end of his first season as manager.

During the team banquet, the players and trainers recognized Amos and some of the other young men who helped out during the season. The parents of the football players gave them a standing ovation and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. After his second season as manager, Amos received a letter jacket at the banquet.  He was also allowed to run out onto the field with the team at the beginning of each half!

Amos also helped out as manager with the C.R.H.S. varsity basketball team for two years. He assisted with locker room duties and worked with the coaches during practice. They, too, accepted Amos as one of their own and made him feel very much a part of the team.

When he’s not competing and managing, Amos’ hobbies include watching WWE wrestling (and most other sports), working with computers, playing video games and spending time with friends. He works part time with Hands on Task in Katy, where he helps prepare learning kits for shipment to schools all over the U.S. He earned yet another honor when the Greater Houston area selected him as its 2011 Male Athlete of the Year (22+). Talk about dreams coming true!
