Concordia University Texas in Austin held their annual Athletics Banquet on April 18th, and invited Special Olympics Texas athletes and staff members to talk about the unique partnership.
The Division III school is one of many universities that participate in the Special Olympics partnership which provides volunteer opportunities for their student-athletes by giving back with their Athletes-for-Athletes program. The program pairs the school's student-athletes with Special Olympics Texas athletes at games or clinics. This past year, Concordia Sports Information Director, Matt Chmura volunteered to be the competition director for the local area flag football competition. He was able to fill every key volunteer position with a student-athlete or a Concordia coach. The event was a success for all and just shows how the partnership has crossed over into being more about creating relationships with the athletes.
