Texercise was created by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (formally known as DADS). Special Olympics Texas and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services have partnered to provide our athletes this opportunity. The purpose of the Texercise program to help the elderly population stay active and encourage them to start moving, exercising, eating better, stretching, and educating them on the importance of proper nutrition. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services is allowing SOTX to provide this program to our athletes who must be at least 16 years old or older. The Texercise program is designed to keep our athletes moving without the use of any gym equipment or a facility. Basically, exercises are done as a group and can be conducted anywhere.
A facilitator is needed to guide our athletes through this program. The facilitator is there to help keep the group motivated and to assist them with their exercise as needed. The Texercise program comes with a manual and a DVD which are all used by that the facilitator to help him/her guide our athletes through the program. Texercise offers different incentive levels to all participants who achieve the goals set within the program.
As a Special Olympics Texas delegation, you would register through SOTX. We need to track all of our athletes participating in the Texercise program.
