LETR Officers Lace Up for Final Leg
Light the way for Special Olympics Texas (SOTX)! SOTX – Laredo area is getting fired up for its 2011 Torch Run Final Leg Departure. The event is a prelude to the 2011 Summer Games in Arlington, May 26-29.
Dozens of Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) agencies – Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), FBI, Laredo I.S.D. Campus Police, Laredo Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol – Laredo, U.S. Customs and Border Protection – Laredo, Webb County Constable – Precinct 1, United I.S.D. Campus Police, Webb County Sheriff’s Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Detention Removal Office (DRE), Rio Grande Detention Center, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air & Marine, and Texas Department of Public Safety – will have a part in the event, which will start with a press conference at 9:30 a.m. on May 24 at Webb County Commissioners Court at 1000 Houston. The LETR team will start the torch run thru the streets of Laredo. The run will take place thru San Bernardo Avenue to Calton Road.
On May 25, LETR officers will continue along IH-35 and stop in Cotulla, Dilley and Pearsall before passing the torch on to SOTX - San Antonio area.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 40,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
