8K Run/Two-Mile Walk in Memory of Officer
El Paso’s finest are getting ready for the annual Sgt. Ruben Orozco 8K Law Enforcement Torch Run on April 10. Sgt. Ruben Orozco died in a car crash almost six years ago, after finishing his shift at a University of Texas at El Paso home game. Each year, area police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers and other authorities partner in memory of Sgt. Orozco for the trek. The money raised goes to Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) – Greater El Paso Area athletes.
The race will begin at the corner of Stanton and Cincinnati streets, 2701 N. Stanton. Registration on race day will start at 6:30 a.m. and end at 7:45 a.m. The shotgun start is 8:00 a.m. for the 8K race and 8:15 a.m. for the two-mile walk. The event will end at 11:00 a.m.
Entry fees are $20 if submitted by 6:00 p.m. on April 1. The cost is $25 after April 1.
