Light the way for Special Olympics Texas! SOTX – Rio Grande Valley area is getting fired up for its 2010 Torch Run Kickoff. The kickoff is a prelude to the 2010 Summer Games in Arlington, May 27-30.
Rio Grande Valley Torch Run officers from more than a dozen agencies will run all the way from McAllen to Harlingen on Saturday, May 22. They'll meet up at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday and take off from the Bentsen Tower Federal Building, located at the corner of Bicentennial and Old 83 in McAllen. Once in Harlingen, the team will hand off the torch to the San Antonio leg of the Torch Run, which will mark the start of the final trek to Arlington.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grassroots fund-raiser and public awareness vehicle. At its most basic level, the Torch Run is an actual running event where officers and athletes run the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of local competitions, or State, Provincial or World Summer or Winter Games. At its more extensive, the Torch Run program encompasses a variety of fundraising vehicles such as t-shirt or merchandise sales, donations for runners in the Torch Run, corporate donations, and special events.
