Houston Area Athletes and Coaches Named to Special Olympics Team USA
Special Olympics Texas has revealed the 35 Texas athletes and 10 coaches named to Team USA for the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Of the athletes and coaches selected, the following are from the Houston area:

Close to 315 athletes will represent the United States in the 13th Special Olympics World Summer Games. Team USA will compete in 12 individual sports: athletics, aquatics, bocce, bowling, cycling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, powerlifting, roller skating, sailing, and tennis, as well as four team sports: basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball.
The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held June 25 through July 4, 2011 in Athens, Greece. These Games will be just the second time that the World Summer Games have been held in Europe following the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin, Ireland. In addition to some 7,500 athletes from 185 countries, Special Olympics expects the 2011 World Summer Games to draw 25,000 volunteers, 3,000 event officials and more than 40,000 families, volunteers, spectators and journalists from every continent.
