Athletes go head to head to claim the top spot

For Immediate Release: September 25, 2008

TYLER  – It's a battle of epic proportions! UT Tyler students, faculty and staff will go head to head at the first Turf Wars, benefiting Special Olympics Texas.  Plan to show your spirit and be a part of the fun on September 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on campus at 3900 University Boulevard.  Teams of 8-10 individuals will compete in five different sporting events including, wiffle ball, kickball, volleyball and broomball to determine the ultimate Turf Wars champion.  Each team is required to raise a minimum of $500 to participate and will receive breakfast, lunch and a t-shirt.

Turf Wars is an event that embodies the spirit of Special Olympics athletes. The event challenges its participants to rise to a higher level and compete with courage, determination and sportsmanship.  Local athletes will showcase their skills in an exhibition game to kick off the event.  Let the Turf Wars begin!
