SOTX Athletes Conquer the Hill

Athletes Meet State Legislators at Hill Day

For Immediate Release: March 18, 2008

Seven athletes and eight volunteers, accompanied by SOTX staff and Board of Directors members, represented Texas at the Special Olympics 2008 National Hill Day in Washington, D.C. on March 12.  During Hill Day, the athletes made legislative visits to U.S. Senators and Representatives from Texas to share information and represent Special Olympics Texas. 

The following athletes attended Hill Day:
Kevin Harrell - Greater Houston Area
Katherine Richards - Greater Houston Area
Tim Taggart - San Antonio Area
Paul Corbin - South Plains Area
Stacey Johnson - Greater Dallas Area
Jonathan Blackmon - Greater Dallas Area
Mike Aguilar - San Antonio Area

In addition to meeting with legislators, the group was invited to eat in the Members Dining Room at the Capitol thanks to Congressman Pete Sessions.  Congressman Sessions has a son who is an athlete in the Greater Dallas area.  During the meal, the athletes met Madeline Albright and took pictures with her.  The trip to D.C. was a success, as the athletes returned to Texas with many great memories.
