Officers Serve It UpLaw enforcement take over Applebee’s Restaurant for Tip A Cop For Immediate Release: November 10, 2008 Law enforcement officers want to serve you and help raise money for Special Olympics Texas athletes. On Thursday, November 13, Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers will take over the Applebee's Restaurant in Copperas Cove for the Tip A Cop event. Dine in during lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officers from Killeen, Harker Heights, Temple, Copperas Cove and Coryell police departments will participate in the event, collecting tips from patrons to benefit Special Olympics Texas athletes in your area. Tip A Cop is one way in which law enforcement has been able to successfully raise funds for the 27,610 children and adults in Texas with intellectual disabilities. Officers will don aprons and serve guests as "celebrity waiters" while collecting tips for SOTX. In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 27,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.
