Officers Raise Big Bucks for SOTXOfficers return to Texas Roadhouse restaurant in the Gulf Coast area For Immediate Release: August 6, 2008 ROSENBERG - Law Enforcement Torch Run officers were back for second helps of Tip A Cop at Texas Roadhouse restaurant on July 24. Officers in Rosenberg served as wait staff and raised $817, contributing towards the more than $4,500 for SOTX. Officers took on the role of "celebrity waiters", serving customers and collecting tips for athletes. Officers previously held a Tip A Cop event on June12, which raised more than $48,000 statewide for Special Olympics Texas. Tip A Cop is one way in which law enforcement has been able to successfully raise funds for the 27,610 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Texas. In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 27,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.
