Macy’s Delivers Big for SOTX

For Immediate Release: April 22, 2008

Macy's and their customers delivered big for Special Olympics through their 2007 Thanks for Sharing program, and their commitment to the movement will extend into 2008.  Macy's awarded $640,000 to 10 Special Olympics programs through the holiday promotion; $165,000 was designated to Special Olympics Texas.

This year, Macy's involvement with Special Olympics Texas continues as Presenting Sponsor of the 2008 Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run  (LETR) Final Leg.  Macy's will be recognized and associates will take part in the LETR sendoffs in 15 areas, cheering Torch Runners as they depart their respective cities to begin their journey to the Summer Games.  Macy's will have a strong presence at the 2008 Summer Games, as Torch Runners enter the University of Texas at Arlington's Maverick Stadium for the Final Leg and Opening Ceremonies.

"Macy's is proud of our relationship with Special Olympics.  This is a primary example of Macy's commitment to youth, healthy communities and diversity," said Joe Vella, Divisional Vice President for Macy's South.  "Now Macy's has the opportunity, through our customer's generosity,  to provide the much needed funding to support Special Olympics games, at all levels, in each of the 10 states where our division has a presence."

For a $25 enrollment fee in the Thanks for Sharing program, Macy's cardholders earned 10 percent rewards on most Macy's purchases made with their credit card during the holiday season.  Macy's donated $10 for every customer who enrolled in the program from September 19 through December 31, 2007 in stores located in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
