Officers invade Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Lubbock
For Immediate Release: July 8, 2008
Back the badge and head out to Texas Roadhouse restaurant for the Tip A Cop event. On Thursday, July 24, Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers will take over several Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the state, including in Lubbock, to collect tips for Special Olympics Texas athletes.
Law enforcement officers will be at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant at 4810 S. Loop 289, serving patrons dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Officers will act as "celebrity waiters", serving customers and collecting tips. Officers previously held a Tip A Cop on June 12, which raised more than $48,000 statewide for Special Olympics Texas. The Lubbock area Tip A Cop was postponed due to a fire.
Tip A Cop is one way in which law enforcement has been able to successfully raise funds for the 27,610 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Texas.
In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 27,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.
