Law Enforcement Earns Big at Texas Roadhouse
Officers count their tips for Special Olympics Texas
For Immediate Release: June 19, 2008
BEAUMONT - Law Enforcement Torch Run officers traded in the badge for an apron and served the public in a whole new way on June 12. Officers took on the role of "celebrity waiters", serving patrons and collecting tips for Special Olympics Texas at Texas Roadhouse in Beaumont. The restaurant was one of 33 Texas Roadhouse restaurants participating statewide and earned nearly $900 alone, contributing to the more than $48,600 statewide for Special Olympics Texas athletes!
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation. In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 27,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
