60 Texas Athletes Competed in 2007 World Summer Games

AUSTIN – Special Olympics Texas athletes from across the state are about to embark on an international adventure – competing at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China. Sixty Special Olympics Texas athletes will join nearly 400 athletes from every state and the District of Columbia to form Team USA.
On September 25 and 26, the Texas athletes will depart for Los Angeles. There, they will join with the rest of Team USA, and on September 27, the athletes will leave Los Angeles for China. The World Games competition will be held October 2-11. This Games is the largest international sporting event to happen in 2007, bringing together nearly 7,500 athletes from 165 countries with support from tens of thousands of volunteers, family members and spectators. The athletes will return home to Texas on October 12 and 13.

About the 2007 World Summer Games
Nearly 7,500 athletes of all ability levels from more than 165 countries will compete in 25 Olympic-type and demonstration sports at the 2007 World Games. Special Olympics Team USA will participate in aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, powerlifting, roller skating, sailing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
