Athletes Take Over San Antonio
Volunteers Help Make Winter Games A Success
For Immediate Release: December 19, 2007
Special Olympics Texas athletes rocked San Antonio at the 2008 Winter Games, January 31 through February 3. Athletes from across the state proved they are all champions, as they competed in bowling, powerlifting, table tennis and volleyball. Figure skating was held in Austin on February 1. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make Winter Games a success.
The enthusiasm was contagious, as thousands of athletes, volunteers and LETR officers filled the Alamo Convocation Center for Opening Ceremonies on January 31. The spirit continued through three days of competitions, as more than 2,100 athletes gave it their all as they competed. In addition to competition, a number of special events took place during Winter Games, including Victory Dance and Athlete Village.
