Official Oscar Night® Party benefits Special Olympics Texas

For Immediate Release: February 19, 2006

SAN ANTONIO – You don't have to live in Hollywood to experience the magic and excitement of Oscar Night.  San Antonio residents can join in the glamour and festivities when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences stages its 78th Academy Awards® on Sunday, March 5, 2006, by attending San Antonio's own Academy-sanctioned Oscar Night America party.  The San Antonio party is one of just 46 official parties that will be held across the country on Oscar Night.

The ritzy, Hollywood-style celebration will be hosted at the Omni San Antonio Hotel, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and includes dinner, a reception, and live, large-screen broadcast of the Oscars.  Tickets are now on sale for $150 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Call the Special Olympics Texas – San Antonio office at 210.530.9898.

Benefiting Special Olympics Texas, Oscar Night America is the place to be when the stars accept their awards for the best films – and performances – of 2005. The audience will watch the Academy Awards telecast on large screens through the courtesy of the KSAT12, the San Antonio affiliate of the ABC Television Network, which broadcasts the Academy Awards® presentation.  ABC and the Academy are cooperating for the thirteenth year with local charities to create these official Oscar Night viewing parties.

This marks the third year for Oscar Night America in San Antonio. Last year, Oscar Night America parties raised over $2.2 million for local charities in 44 cities.

Guests may feel like stars themselves as they make their grand entrances to the party; watch live coverage of the Academy Awards telecast, courtesy of KSAT12; mingle with celebrity emcees Ursula Pari and Steve Spriester of KSAT12; enjoy hors d'oeuvres, dinner and a cash bar; bid on silent auction items; and participate in "Predict the Winners" Academy Awards ballots.

The Academy will make available to party guests in San Antonio the same official program distributed to guests seated at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, California.  Copies of the 78th Academy Awards show commemorative poster, designed by Joan Maloney of Studio 318, will also be available.

"Watching the Academy Awards Show is one of the great American traditions," said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis.  "Since the public can't come to Los Angeles to attend the Awards Presentation, we created Oscar Night® America, which allows these local parties to tie into the excitement of Oscar Night and to support some very worthy causes."

Special Olympics Texas athletes will be among the special guests at the party, including several who were featured in the recently released motion picture, The Ringer.
