World's Largest Truck Convoy - Rolls Through Texas

New Dates for World Record-Breaking Event

For Immediate Release: December 5, 2005

The World's Largest Truck Convoy rides again after being postponed due to Hurricane Rita. The Houston and Midland convoys took off in November to raise money for Special Olympics Texas athletes, with one more to "roll" next month.

The Midland convoy was held November 5. Truckers started at the Warfield Truck Stop and began the trek along FM 1788 to SH 191, SH 191 to Loop 250, and Loop 250 to Garfield en route to the Chaparral Center. The Houston convoy was held November 12. Truckers started at the Sam Houston Race Park and drove on Beltway 8 to Highway 249, and 249 to the Northpoint exit, eventually returning to the Race Park for food and entertainment.

Both convoys were a big success. Countless truckers and law enforcement volunteered their time to come together for the event, which helped raise money for Special Olympics Texas athletes. A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated!

If you missed out on the fun, Texas still has one more convoy to go. The Dallas (Carl's Corner) convoy is December 10. The convoy leaves at 10:00 a.m. from Carl's Corner and will travel Interstate 35 South to exit 358, and then looping back to end at Carl's Corner. Special Olympics Texas is still looking for truckers of all kinds to participate in this fun and rewarding event. For more information visit www.specialolympicstexas.org or call 1.888.680.4868.

The WLTC holds Guinness Book of World Record status for the World's Largest Truck Convoy. The international fund raising and awareness event, the WLTC, is a unique partnership between law enforcement and truckers to raise funds for Special Olympics so they can continue to train in year-round sports activities. Officers involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics have made the WTLC one of their many annual signature events.

Special Olympics Texas is a privately funded non-profit organization, providing year-round sports training and athletic competition to over 23,885 children and adults with intellectual disabilities [mental retardation] in the Lone Star State.
