Bowling Competition

The Special Olympics Texas - Central Texas Area bowling competition is an area-wide competition for athletes/teams in the Central Texas area.
Deadline for Medicals: October 6 by 5:00 p.m.
Deadline for Delegation and Athlete Entries: October 13 by 5:00 p.m.
This event is tentatively scheduled as a four-day competition, November 13-16, 2011. The start and end time will be determined by the number of teams/athletes that enter the competition. This information will be updated in weeks leading up to the competition.

Tentatively Scheduled Volunteer Shift Times:
Sunday, November 13
Shift A: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Shift B: 10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Monday, November 14
Shift A: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Shift B: 10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Tuesday, November 15
Shift A: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Shift B: 10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Wednesday, November 16
Shift A: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (90 volunteers needed)
Shift B: 10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (90 volunteers needed)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Medical Support, Souvenirs, Security, Opening Ceremonies, Families Area, Volunteer Registration, Equipment, Set up, Breakdown and Clean up, Runners and Escorts.
Lane Monitors:
-Monitor and assist the volunteer working on the lane with problems such as scoring, bowlers out of turn, broken lanes, etc.
-Patrol the lanes assigned and alert the competition director of any problems with athletes, families or volunteers if needed.
-Monitor 6 – 8 lanes.
-Need some bowling knowledge.
Lane Assistants (A minimum of 1 – 2 will be assigned per lane):
-Learn the names of the athletes and assist them to bowl in the correct order on the correct lane.
-When the game is finished, manually write down the score on the heat sheets provided.
-At the end of the competition, escort the athletes to the awards staging area.
-Deliver the completed heat sheets to the scorer’s table for final tabulations.
-Need bowling knowledge.
Scorekeepers:
-Responsible for tallying final scores based on the bowling handicapping system.
-Place athletes in correct awards order 1 – 8.
-Send completed heat sheets to awards staging area.
-Responsible for monitoring the officiating to assure game is called according to all governing body rules.
-Responsible for posting scores or communicating final scores to competition headquarters.
Awards:
-Assist in the set up awards area.
-Assist in staging of athletes.
-Assist in awarding athletes.
