Wanted: Superheroes to go Over the Edge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Honorary Chairman, Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, invites you to go Over The Edge on Saturday, November 16 for Special Olympics Texas.   Unleash your inner superhero by raising funds and rappelling 20 stories down the Embassy Suites Houston-Downtown - from the roof top to the pool deck - in support of 4,300 Greater Houston area athletes.

The fourth annual event is presented by Clear Channel Outdoor, Clear Channel Media+Entertainment - Houston and Hess Corporation.  Radio personality, Rod Ryan – The Buzz 94.5, will serve as celebrity emcee and rappel in Houston; Dana Tyson – Sunny 99.1, will go Over The Edge as a quad-city rappeller in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Houston.  She will join Special Olympics Texas athletes Katherine Richards and Ashley Billard, as well as SOTX Board Vice Chair and VP of Coca-Cola Refreshments, Hector Amaya, in rappelling a total of 73 stories!

No previous rappelling experience is required.  Participants should be 18 years or older by the day of the event, and weigh between 110 to 300 lbs.  Rappels are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Members of the Houston SWAT Team, rope experts from HFD and Harris County Sheriff’s Office will be there to instruct and assist you.  Rappel spots are limited, so register today at www.sotx.org/overtheedge.

Each participant agrees to raise a minimum of $1,000 for this unforgettable experience. Every friend, family or co-worker donating $50 to help send participants Over the Edge will be entered for a chance to win two roundtrip BusinessFirst tickets to Europe, courtesy of United.  Companies, organizations, schools and agencies are encouraged to “send the boss, police chief, principal or coach” Over The Edge by raising funds from employees or members. Corporate sponsorships are available.  For more information, contact Bruce Sims (bsims@sotx.org) at 713.290.0049.

Thrill seekers can rappel down buildings in three or four cities for Special Olympics Texas.  The event kicks off at the historic 22 story Milam Building on the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio on October 19; and then moves on to the 17 story Hyatt Regency Austin Downtown, on the Lake on October 26; heads to the 15 story Bank Tower at Oak Cliff in Dallas on November 9; and culminates at the 20 story Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Houston on November 16.
