The Basketball Coaches training is designed to train new Special Olympics coaches or recertify Special Olympics coaches in the rules and regulations for Special Olympics Texas Basketball. The training will consist of classroom overview or rules, modifications, and expectations, hands on experience doing basketball related activities, and an general session of SOTX policies and procedures that coaches are directly responsible to adhere to.
Individual Skills is designed to breakdown general basketball skills into a individual based competition. The skills training will consist of the rules and modifications for the different events for athletes. Athletes participate in skills competition that includes dribbling, shooting, and passing. Most participants of Individuals skills are school based athletes with teams that wish to compete during the school day, older athletes, or athletes that either do not or are unable to play team basketball.
General Session: This is an sotx overview which covers the policies and procedures of Special olympics Texas and the expectations you are responsible to adhere to as a certified Special olympics Coach.
Team Basketball is similar traditional team basketball. The training focuses on basic fundamentals and strategies to get your team started. The training also reviews the rules, modificaitons, and expectations of the annual basketball tournament.
All participants must attend the the general session regardless if you are attending the individual skills or the team basketball session or both.
9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.: Individual Skills Training (Check in begins at 9 a.m.)
10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: General Session
11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Team Basketball Session
