Special Olympics Texas has a serious case of football fever! Flag football is the newest sport out of 22 sports offered, and our state competition is growing each year. Traditional and Unified teams will face off in San Antonio at the STAR Soccer Complex, and you’ll be amazed at the level of competition, sportsmanship and spirit of our athletes. Unified competitions include people with and without intellectual disabilities. They promote inclusion, understanding and bonding...both in sports and in everyday life. Flag Football is SOTX’s newest sport – it kicked off in 2011.
Flag football has existed almost as long as tackle football. The first game was played in 1933, and it became a popular recreational activity on military bases in the 1940s.
Out of safety concerns for athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators at Special Olympics Texas practices, events and competitions, Special Olympics Texas prohibits the operation or use of drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or unmanned aerial systems (UASs) for photography or other use during our practices, events and competitions.
