Many stories of bravery, hope and grace have already come out of the Coastal Bend, Houston and Golden Triangle in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and we’ll doubtless hear about many more in the coming days.

You won’t be surprised that Special Olympics Texas athletes are right in the middle of it all.

We’ve already heard about one: Houston-area athlete Marcus Gary – who competes in several sports, including kayaking – has been helping rescue people and pets from flooded homes.

Marcus’s mom, Dana Gary, told us yesterday (via email): "It's been a very long 3 days and nights. They rescued people all day and all night. It's all been neighbor helping neighbor. No federal forces."

As you can see from the photos, the neighborhood needed assistance, and Marcus was in the thick of it.

On Tuesday, Marcus was able to take a break and dry out – while working a 10-hour shift at his job at Kroger Grocery Store.

There are great challenges ahead, but we will get through them together. Stay Strong.
