Sara Hencke of Cleburne, Texas is getting ready for her first-ever trip to a Special Olympics World Games. When the Games get underway in Los Angeles in just a week and half from now, Hencke will be serving as the head coach of Special Olympics USA’s Cycling team. 

After being a dedicated volunteer for the last 21 years, Hencke is looking forward to helping make the two weeks in LA a memorable and fun experience for each of our cycling athletes. 

“I’m looking forward to seeing each one find their own personal success in competition,” Hencke said.

In 1994, Hencke began volunteering with SOTX when she and members of her work at the Garland Parks and Recreation Department gotten involved the department’s Therapeutic Recreation division.

Ever since then, Special Olympics athletes have become Hencke’s passion. She currently is an active Key Volunteer with Area 11 (Greater Fort Worth Area). Through that role, she serves as the chairperson of the Area Sports Management Team and as a Training Director.
