Last Friday at the Central Texas area Bowling Competition, the 19-member Texas Softball team made its way out to Dart Bowl to lend their helping hands to the Area 13 bowlers.

The Longhorns presented the athletes with medals and ribbons and moderated the lanes, while also getting to know the bowlers and making new friends.

“I really liked getting involved with the athletes and I know they really look forward to this,” junior outfielder Lindsey Stephens said. “This is probably one of the best community service activities that I have ever done. They’re athletes and they are nothing less. Being able to get out here to spend time and talk with them was a great experience.”

Senior pitcher Gabby Smith shared the same sentiments and she believes anyone else, including fellow UT athletes would also benefit from this experience.

“It was a really special thing; it wasn’t work, it was more about getting to be involved with these athletes,” Smith said. "This wasn’t your ordinary volunteering, because you actually get to engage with the kids and all of the athletes. You have the opportunity to talk with them, watch them compete and that is really special. We got to see the athletes bowling and it’s just really awesome to see that nothing can stop them from being athletes just like we are. So, it was pretty special to be a part of this and I think that a lot of other people would want to experience this.”
