Southern Methodist University’s Equestrian team volunteered at an Area 10 Equestrian Competition at the Equest Riding Center on April 6 in Wylie, Texas. Five members of the SMU team served as judges for the event, and a total of 20 team members served as awards assistants and attended the event as fans. The Area 10 Equestrian Competition brought over 40 Special Olympics athletes to compete in Wylie.
Courtney Line, a member of the SMU Equestrian team, has served as a judge for riding programs before and very much appreciated being involved in the event.
“I think it's important to be able to provide an opportunity to help these athletes develop and improve as riders.....being here made me realize how much I miss giving back and being a part of programs like this,” Line said.
For Hannah McCain, one of Line’s teammates at SMU, her first time as a judge was a great experience for her.
"This was my first time and I love how happy the athletes are when they ride, that's how I am when I ride. So to just see that joy on their faces makes it all worth it!” McCain said.
