Ivelisse and David Vazquez

Proud parents Ivelisse and David Vazquez were at volleyball to support their daughter, Janice Rosario, who is competing with Arlington ISD. She’s been a Special Olympics Texas athlete since she was in the third grade, she’s now a senior in high school. She plays all the sports: soccer, basketball, track and field, volleyball and even baseball in the summer with another program.

David says that participating in Special Olympics keeps Janice – and her parents – busy all year long. “Trust me, it keeps her busy enough that we hardly have time for ourselves!”

Ivelisse says that competing with Special Olympics has made Janice feel more confident and more social and she really enjoys spending time with her teammates. She’s participating in a job training program and plans to continue with Special Olympics Texas after she graduates. (Find out more information about how SOTX fits into a school transition plan.)

David says that anyone who’s thinking about getting involved with Special Olympics should do it, because participation means so much to the athletes.

His favorite part of Special Olympics Texas? “They’re happy even if they lose. Just the look on their faces. You can’t put a price on that.”
