Ian Rawn Places 4th in Figure Skating at World Games in Austria

Texas’ lone Special Olympics World Games competitor Ian Rawn (Plano, Texas) placed 4th in the Figure Skating Competition on Thursday at Ice Stadium Graz-Liebenau. Rawn will officially be presented with his ribbon during Friday morning’s Awards Ceremony.

Ian Rawn Carried the Olympic Torch in 1996

In 1996, JCPenny named Ian Rawn a Community Hero, which in turn gave him a slot to carry the Olympic torch when it came through Little Rock, Ark. ahead of the Summer Games, which were held in Atlanta that year.

At his compulsaries he was pretty nervous. The enormity of what was happening hit home as he put his blade on Olympic ice for his first competition. If you saw the ESPN interview you could see he was quite choked up.

Area 16's Spread the Word Campaign Reaches 500 Pledges

While schools were closed during Spring Break last week, several groups continued the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign throughout the Panhandle area. Through the end of last week’s activities, the pledges to end the R-Word reached 500.
