Special Olympics Texas' 2015 Summer Games are just days away! Every year, everyone looks forward to the event where the Games are officially declared underway - the Opening Ceremony. That will take place on Friday night at Maverick Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Games are ceremoniously declared open once the four regional torches, carrying the Flame of Hope, ignite the cauldron. This year's lighting will be extra exciting, because it will mark the first time that this particular cauldron will be used for SOTX's Opening Ceremony.
Students from all over the Greater Houston area came together to "Play Unified" on Friday. More than 140 students from seven Meet in the Middle campuses came together to take part in the Kroger Play Unified Pro Sport Camp, hosted by Bruce Matthews, at UScore Soccer in Spring, Texas.
Muller Elementary School MIM students presented a donation to SOTX-Laredo (Area 21) on Thursday, May 14. The students organized and participated in a Autism Awareness Walkathon on campus in support of Special Olympics Texas.
Joey Cummings, 24, of Flower Mound has been a Special Olympics Texas athlete since he was 10 years old. Over the last 14 years, he has been consistently active within the program. Depending on the time of year, Joey can be found in the pool, at the bowling alley, on the bocce and basketball courts or on the soccer field getting ready for his upcoming FC Dallas tryout.
After competing as a swimmer and on the cross country team back in high school, Jaime Holt, 24, continued her passion for those sports by getting involved with SOTX nearly four years ago after a friend told her about it and encouraged her to try it out.
